EXCLUSIVE: why YB Teh come back from China cycling trip QUIETLY?
YB Teh Yee Chui had come back from his 1-month cycling trip to China (via Thailand, Laos, Vietnam) QUIETLY. There is no celebration to welcome back the unprecedented journey. A participant admit that most participants were cheating on the cycling trip by taking buses on part of the journey due to poor organising which left many injured or too sick to carry on.....
The `long cycling' ala `long march' probably saw a very fit YB becoming the only one cycling through the whole trip. He was so fit that he wanted to do 180km per day -rushing the `sheeps' behind beyond their capacities. It was not to be a better way to see the country as they thought-with so much problems done to their bicycles and body. When they arrived in Chine they found their bicycles outdated as Chinese nowadays like to install either electric or diesel motor onto their bicycles. So where to give away their bicycles????
Anyway the criticisms of a YB `enjoying' a month long trip away while on pay, has irked a number of rate payers in Penang. That, together with the problems mentioned above probably explain the low profile reception to the `long cycling' trip-in contrast to the reception to the round the world sailing trip by one Dato Azhar.
A few other Ybs who can't cycle as well as the YB Teh was said to have flown all the way to China to hold the `celebration' there. Did they get a good reception in China? My informer told me that to get a talk with the China official they need to pay for a meal-because the officials `like to' talk over plenty of food. So how much did the `power lunches' cost in the budget of the whole trip? YB Teh run a restaurant back in Penang he should be quite good at such calculations.
There are a number of lesson to be learned from the ill-thought out adventure. Instead o thinking far on the legislative challenges the YB has probably made a wrong turn into `activity' lane, better suited for voluntary groups.
Some media folks should put these questions to the YB to see how he can justify getting paid on publc expenses while doing a cycling trip to China. Here you go: YB, can I join your next all-expenses paid cycling trip?
